Wildfire Camera Placement

A QGIS and Python workflow for testing camera locations and viewing angles against terrain visibility. Current results cover a partial Lesvos study area.

The idea

What it does

This optimizer combines a terrain model, land-cover weights and each camera's field of view to compare possible monitoring positions and directions.

Demonstration

How it works

01

Generate candidate camera locations

02

Calculate which land each candidate can see

03

Search for a camera set and viewing angles that meet the coverage target

Published partial-Lesvos run

The saved greedy solution used 89 cameras. The tested search found a solution with 86 cameras and about 90% weighted target coverage.

These are preliminary study results from the repository, not an island-wide optimum.
